What should you do if intimate images are shared without consent ?
Preserve URLs, screenshots and threats before reporting each copy. Ask the platform to remove the material and, where needed, ask search engines to de-index it. Criminal and civil remedies may proceed in parallel. If you are being blackmailed, do not pay and do not send intimate images through the contact form.

What to do first.
Record each exact URL, publication date, account name and message. Keep original conversations and screenshots without sharing the image again. A French commissaire de justice report may help preserve evidence. If an account was hacked, change its credentials from a secure device. Contact the firm without attaching intimate material to your initial enquiry.
If someone demands money.
Do not pay: payment cannot guarantee the threats will end. Keep demands and payment details. If you face immediate danger, contact the police or emergency services.
If the person affected is under 18.
Contact the authorities and France's 3018 helpline for minors affected by online abuse. Do not forward the images to others; give the authorities the links and context.
Which legal protections apply in France ?
Consent to making an intimate image is not consent to publishing it. Article 226-2-1 of the French Criminal Code addresses the non-consensual distribution of sexual images in circumstances set out by the statute. Its second paragraph provides for two years' imprisonment and a €60,000 fine.
Depending on the facts, Articles 226-1 and 226-2 of the Criminal Code and Article 9 of the Civil Code may also apply. The perpetrator need not be a former partner.
Stolen images and sexual deepfakes.
Covert recording, account hacking and an AI-generated sexual depiction raise distinct legal questions. The latter may fall within Article 226-8-1 of the French Criminal Code.
Sextortion and threats.
Threatening disclosure to obtain money, more images or other conduct may amount to blackmail, extortion or another offence depending on the coercion involved. You may report threats even before publication.
Removing images and limiting further distribution.
Each known copy requires attention. In the EU, an Article 16 Digital Services Act notice should specify the location and explain why the material is unlawful. Immediate removal cannot be guaranteed. If notices fail, French court relief may be considered under Article 6-3 of the LCEN.
Removal is not de-indexing.
Removal targets the file on its host; de-indexing removes a search result, not the source page. Both may be needed, along with monitoring for new copies.
Copies outside Europe.
Routes depend on the host and jurisdiction. A US DMCA notice may be appropriate if you own copyright in the file. Read our OnlyFans and MYM leak guide.
Identifying the perpetrator and seeking compensation.
A criminal complaint enables investigators to request relevant account data. Where its conditions are met, a pre-trial evidentiary measure can be sought before a French civil court under Article 145 of the Code of Civil Procedure. Neither a report nor a court request guarantees identification.
Criminal complaint, civil injunction and damages.
A complaint may cover distribution, threats and account intrusion. Civil proceedings may seek to stop a privacy infringement. Compensation depends on evidence of personal, emotional or professional harm.
Harassment and reputation.
Repeated messages may call for cyberbullying action. Image rights and online reputation remedies may complement the response.
Removal, search de-indexing and legal proceedings have different effects.
